Marilyn Manson Pointed A Fake Gun At Crowd During His Concert

Marilyn Manson pointed a fake gun

While the subject of mass shootings is not something that should be taken lightly, there is no need for anybody to start an uproar over what Marilyn Manson did at his concert Sunday night. Marilyn Manson pointed a fake gun at his crowd during a concert in San Bernadino, California while singing “We Know Where You F****** Live.” A microphone was attached to the top of the gun. Or was a gun attached to the bottom of his microphone? Ponder that one, Freud fans. I’ll wait until this glass is half empty.

Marilyn Manson pointed a fake gun at the crowd because it was part of a performance. It would surprise me if any of his fans are really upset about it. They know that he is a performer, and his concerts involve many acts that are commentaries on the world we live in. The gun under his microphone had a big red band painted on the end to underscore the fact that the gun wasn’t real. This incident shouldn’t even be an issue. The fact that it is undermines free speech/freedom of expression. It’s a Constitutional right us Americans are fortunate enough to have. Nobody in America should do anything to fight against free speech in any manner.

The rock singer released a statement to defend his actions because some people don’t understand that he was simply performing. It’s what he does. It was no more violent than what is seen in Hollywood movies. Too many people are fools, and that is why he was forced to issue a statement. The entire statement reads:

“In an era where mass shootings have become a nearly daily occurrence this was an act of theater in an attempt to make a statement about how easily accessible semi-automatic weapons are and how seeing them has become normalized. My art has always been a reaction to popular culture and my way to make people think about the horrible things that happen in this world. My performance was not meant to be disrespectful or show any insensitivity. The prop microphone I used on stage was handed to me with the approval of a police officer. My empathy goes out to anyone who has been affected by the irresponsible and reprehensible misuse of REAL guns.”
