Super Mario Animated Movie Coming to Theaters… In a Very Long Time
Illumination, the animation studio behind such hits as Minions (meh) and The Secret Life of Pets (great movie), has announced that they have teamed up with Nintendo to create an animated Super Mario movie. Chances are fairly good that the movie will be of the highest quality, and it’s almost a given that it will rake in the money. Just because a movie makes a lot of money doesn’t mean that it is any good. Take the Fast and Furious movies, for example: terrible acting, terrible writing, terrible everything except for some of the cars and eye candy girls. The first “Mario” movie was a disaster.
Information about the Super Mario movie is just about non-existent because they’re in the early stages of development. What is known so far is that it will be co-produced by Shigeru Miyamoto (the creator of Mario and many other Nintendo characters) and Chris Meledandri, who worked on the Despicable Me movies, among others.
If I were a gambling man (actually, I do gamble from time to time) I’d put my money on a release date of no earlier than February 2020.
Illumination has pushed back the release date of The Secret Life of Pets a whole year. That’s bullcrap. The sequel now has a release date of July 3, 2019.
